Rock crystal and amethyst purple with black and grey.
This one is beautiful, not only for the dark inclusions which echo the 6-sided crystal form, but also for the characteristic colourless and purple colour zoning within the centre (associated with Brazil twinning for anyone interested…). The purple colouration of amethyst is caused by iron impurities within the quartz.
With a hardness of 7, good toughness and stability, crystalline quartz is suitable for use in rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets, brooches and cufflinks, although abrasion and wear may occur in rings and bracelets.
Hardness – resistance to scratching and wear
Stability – resistance to alteration by light, heat or chemicals
Toughness – resistance to fracture, cleavage or cracking
