This translucent variety of polycrystalline quartz has been dyed to produce a uniform coloration.

Chalcedony is a polycrystalline form of quartz.  With a hardness of 6, excellent toughness and good stability, it is suitable for use in rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets, brooches and cufflinks, although abrasion and wear may occur in rings and bracelets.

Stability – resistance to alteration by light, heat or chemicals

Toughness – resistance to fracture, cleavage or cracking
