This is rhyolite, a fine-grained igneous rock (solidified lava), with blue quartz and pink feldspar – a subtle beauty.

All 3 minerals have a hardness of 6, making this suitable for use in rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets, brooches and cufflinks, although abrasion and wear may occur in rings and bracelets.

Hardness – resistance to scratching and wear

Stability – resistance to alteration by light, heat or chemicals

Toughness – resistance to fracture, cleavage or cracking
