Varying tones of grey (which sounds boring but this is a beautiful stone!).
Pinolith is a metamorphic rock that contains white magnesite crystals within a grey graphite and dolomite matrix. It is only found in Austria and its name comes from the magnesite inclusions resembling the shape of pine cones.
With a hardness of 3.5-4.5 they are suitable for use in pendants, earrings and brooches but care should be taken in rings and bracelets and when setting the stones themselves.
Hardness – resistance to scratching and wear
Stability – resistance to alteration by light, heat or chemicals
Toughness – resistance to fracture, cleavage or cracking
Please note you will receive the stone in the photograph
