Amethyst druzy pendant

There was just something about this stone that would not let me walk past it...  The tiny crystals catch the light beautifully and are surrounded by a soft grey agate which just begged to be set in the matt silver finish I love to use.  I have an image in my mind of this being worn with soft grey cashmere knitwear...

This hallmarked silver pendant comes on a heavy 3mm thick 18” foxtail chain.  The 49.35ct piece of amethyst druzy is set in a sterling silver closed back setting and the pendant measures approx. 40x30mm.   

Amethyst is the purple variety of crystalline quartz whose colour is caused by the presence of iron.  A druzy is a mass of small crystals that have formed when mineral-rich water evaporated and crystallised on the surface of another stone.  The mineral content of the water dictated what crystallised, each variety of mineral crystal having their unique colours, lustre and formation.
