Black with varying tones of grey and areas of silver-blue schiller.

This opaque, coarse-grained igneous rock has layers of feldspar within it which produces the silver-blue schiller.  It is named after Larvik in Norway where this type of rock is found.

With a hardness of 6-6.5, Larvikite is suitable for use in rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets, brooches and cufflinks, although abrasion and wear may occur in rings and bracelets.

• Stability – resistance to alteration by light, heat or chemicals
• Toughness – resistance to fracture, cleavage or cracking
