I particularly liked the druzy positioning in this stone – a druzy is a mass of small crystals that have formed when mineral-rich water evaporated and crystallised on the surface of another stone. The mineral content of the water dictated what crystallised, each variety of mineral crystal having their unique colours, lustre and formation.
Quartz has a hardness of 7, excellent toughness and good stability, making it suitable for use in rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets, brooches and cufflinks, although abrasion and wear may occur in rings and bracelets. Note that wearing this stone in a ring may cause damage to the crystals within the centre.
Hardness – resistance to scratching and wear
Stability – resistance to alteration by light, heat or chemicals
Toughness – resistance to fracture, cleavage or cracking
