Blue opal is a common opal which means it does not display the play of colour associated with precious opals. While opals have a hardness of 6, they have poor to fair toughness and fair to poor stability so are suitable for use in pendants, earrings and brooches but care should be taken if using in rings, bracelets and cufflinks. Care should also be taken when storing jewellery containing any form of opal and they should be stored away from other jewellery that may damage the stone.
Hardness – resistance to scratching and wear
Stability – resistance to alteration by light, heat or chemicals
Toughness – resistance to fracture, cleavage or cracking
Please note you will receive the stone in the photograph
