A translucent pale blue-green (duck-egg) with an area of orange tint.

Blue opal is a common opal which means it does not display the play of colour associated with precious opals.  This opal is from Peru and is their national stone.  While opals have a hardness of 6, they have poor to fair toughness and fair to poor stability so are suitable for use in pendants, earrings and brooches but care should be taken if using in rings, bracelets and cufflinks.  Care should also be taken when storing jewellery containing any form of opal and they should be stored away from other jewellery that may damage the stone.
