Lapis-blue with band of off-white and some sparkle from golden pyrite.

This opaque stone does not have a polished cabochon top which adds more interest.  Lapis lazuli is a rock that consists of lazulite, white calcite and pyrite.

With a hardness of 5.5, good toughness and fair stability, this stone may be used for earrings, pendants and brooches but it may show signs of abrasion and wear in rings, bracelets or cufflinks and care needs to be taken when setting this stone.

• Stability – resistance to alteration by light, heat or chemicals
• Toughness – resistance to fracture, cleavage or cracking
