This is an interesting stone which has bands of chatoyant tiger’s-eye interspersed with veins of hematite. A really interesting stone!
Tiger’s-eye is an opaque polycrystalline form of quartz. With a hardness of 6, excellent toughness and good stability, it is suitable for use in rings, pendants, earrings, bracelets, brooches and cufflinks, although abrasion and wear may occur in rings and bracelets. Hematite has a hardness of 5.5-6.5.
Hardness – resistance to scratching and wear
Stability – resistance to alteration by light, heat or chemicals
Toughness – resistance to fracture, cleavage or cracking
